Who is this for?

If you have experienced a neurodisruption,

an incident that disrupted the neural pathways in your brain, examples are traumatic brain injury, strokes, or multiple concussions,

and you want to explore your creative practice(s).

We understand. The Neuro: Artist Residency is for you if you find yourself creating, reconnecting with your creative self, exploring a new medium or creative practice, or you are engaging with your existing art practice in new ways post-neurodisruption.

What is an artist residency?

At the core, it is the gift of time and space to explore your creative practices.

• Where?

  • Birch Creek Service Ranch, in Spring City, Utah

• Is it really a ranch?

  • It is an 80-acre parcel of land situated amongst pinon and juniper foothills

  • In the summer, it serves as a kids' camp with a big two-story lodge with a three-sided balcony

  • There is a garden, several platform cabins, a yurt, a bunkhouse with a cool rooftop, and a huge fire pit

  • Deer and wild turkeys are frequent companions, and there is an outdoor cat, Oscar, who runs the place

• How long is a residency?

  • 1 Month

  • We start August 15th and run through May 15th

• Ammenties:

  • Single Bedrooms in either the lodge or the small house

  • WIFI

  • Commercial Kitchen with a huge island

    • You are responsible for your food

    • There are multiple shelves, refrigerators, freezers, a grill, and microwaves

  • Private Showers and Bathrooms

  • Commerical Laundry

  • Wood-burning stove

  • Wood shop

What happens when I am there?

Your time is yours.

We host 4 artists a month, giving people the opportunity to be in community if that feels right. Each group is very different.

We spend time up front in our interview process to get to know you, answer your questions, and give you a sense of the space.

Given each person's unique journey to The Neuro, we allow the space for the artists to flow with what feels right for them, knowing that nervous systems are in different places each day. 

An Artist Residency at The Neuro is a gift of time and space for a person to use in ways that support their creative process. We do not put expectations on “results” for these reasons. 

Do I bring my own materials?

Yes. We suggest bringing something you may want to work on, or your go to mediums, tools, and materials. There is a woodshop and some art supplies at the ranch.

Artists have shipped materials to the ranch, bought materials locally, on FBMP or have picked up materials in Salt Lake City.

Can we leave whenever we want?

• Yes.

• Some people want to chill and connect with nature, others roam around, and others have made local friends.

• Your experience is a creative one. We have found that less structure allows people to flow with ease and respond to their curiosity in the moment.

What’s around there?

Spring City offers a local gallery and is home to a community of artists, from potters and painters to musicians and poets. There are regular gatherings at Spring City Arts.

Snow College hosts weekly Art Talks. Previous artists attended these every Thursday evening. Some went to performances, plays, or the planetarium, and some got invited to observe classes.

There are a few local restaurants, and big box fast food places. There are homemade options and market stands on FB.

Spring City and Ephraim are around 10 minutes from the ranch.

Some artists have explored National Parks, Mystic Hot Springs, and Maple Canyon.

What if I am coming from out of state?

We work with you on transportation to the ranch and during your time at the ranch.

The experience is yours to create. We have witnessed people come to the ranch with specific ideas, and find something else they are also interested in. We support you exploring what you calls you.
